“Rethinking the Himalayas”: 2nd Annual NHRN conference CFP

Call for Papers: 2nd Annual Nordic Himalaya Research Network Conference

Rethinking the Himalayas”

University of Copenhagen, May 9th, 2019

The Nordic Himalaya Research Network (NHRN) Conference is an event for researchers in the Nordic region and beyond who work on all aspects of research related to the Himalaya region, spanning India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. The NHRN was established in 2018 with the aim of bringing together scholars from across disciplines who work on this easily-overlooked but strategically important region. The conference offers a platform for scholars of the Himalayas to present their research and meet other researchers, and it is particularly intended to be a supportive meeting point for emerging scholars.

The NHRN conference runs for a full day on Thursday, May 9th at University of Copenhagen and will be organized so as to accommodate as many participants as possible. We especially encourage graduate students to attend and present their work. Any research related to the Himalayas, within any discipline is relevant, including presentations on research projects, new initiatives, book launches, roundtable sessions, etc. Please send your paper or panel proposal to the organizers (see below) along with a brief bio before March 29, 2019. If you would like to be a part of the NHRN network, please also send a profile photo so we can add you to our list of affiliated scholars on our website: https://himalayanordic.wordpress.com/. The conference program will be circulated around mid-April and conference updates will be posted on the NHRN website.

The NHRN conference is supported by the Asian Dynamics Initiative and Roskilde University. Travel and accommodation costs are borne by participants, but for graduate students wishing to attend some financial support for travel expenses is available. If you would like to apply for travel funding, please send an estimated budget for your travel expenses along with your CV. Participation in the conference is free of charge, but it is necessary to register for the conference. Food and beverages during the conference will be provided. A dinner will be arranged after the conference but will not be paid for by the NHRN organizing committee.  Registration will close on May 1st.

  1. For last three decades I am working on Himalayan environment and cultural landscape. I teach Area Studies and Himalayan Geography at the Centre for Himalayan Studies, University of North Bengal, Dist. Darjeeling, India. Can I participate in the Seminar?
